Malcolm founded Malcolm Reading Consultants in 1996 after six years as Director of Design and Architecture at the British Council. 

He has created a unique service helping clients deliver high-profile, innovative and design-led development projects in the public realm, heritage, education and the Arts.

His leadership abilities, combined with rigorous management skills, have been tested at the highest level with clients such as, NATO, The Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Westminster Abbey, The Africa Centre, The London School of Economics, The Royal Geographical Society, The National Maritime Museum and The Millennium Bridge Trust.

He has served as a Trustee to Historic Royal Palaces (Kensington Palace, The Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Kew Palace and The Banqueting House) since 2005. He is currently chair of The Tower of London UNESCO World Heritage Site Consultative Committee.

He has government security clearance.
