The North Park Hub and Playground will be the social focus of the northern part of the future Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and a key resource for local residents after the 2012 Games.
The Olympic Park Legacy Company seeks to commission a design team through this two-stage competition to create an outstanding Park building and one of London’s best playgrounds.
Initially Expressions of Interest are sought following which five to seven teams will be shortlisted.
The proposed scheme should respond to, and be inspired by, the unique Park setting of the River Lea with its waterways, paths, and extensive green space.
This project will provide a permanent building of the highest design quality with flexible indoor spaces for local people to gather for community events and celebrations, as well as a café for refreshments.
It should also deliver an imaginative and distinctive playground which will be loved by local people while also drawing children and their parents from further afield. This will be located adjacent to the first completed family-orientated housing developments
The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will offer a new environment for living and working in London; a place where global attractions, revitalised waterways and parkland co-exist with emerging new east London neighbourhoods. It will provide families and individuals with the opportunity to live and work close by.
The Park will offer space for cycling and walking as well as areas where locals and Londoners can muse, refresh, connect with nature and engage in informal sports.
It will benefit from the latest green technologies to manage flood and rainwater while providing habitats for hundreds of existing and rare species from kingfishers to otters. These places will be a rich educational resource for schools and children.
Over time new and expanded neighbourhoods will surround the Park and establish this new district in east London.
