Congratulations to Claire McKeown, our Senior Associate, whose house recently won first prize in the Don’t Move, Improve! competition run by New London Architecture in association with Time Out magazine. You can see the winners’ exhibition which showcases the most imaginative ways of creating more home space at the Building Centre (ends January 30th).
The extension and refurbishment of the three bedroom house in Hackney was designed by Platform 5 Architects. Claire’s partner, Patrick Michell, co-founder of Platform 5 Architects found Claire a very demanding client!
The judges unanimously selected the scheme as 'Overall Winner' for its careful and beautiful detailing, use of glass to create a light and airy space and for its well-thought out interplay with the existing residential building. Alison Brooks, jury chair, considered it to be “just about perfect for a building of its type”.
