MRC is delighted to be appointed on three different heritage masterplanning projects

MRC is delighted to be advising three new clients on a series of heritage projects:  Ushaw College, Belmont House and Newhaven Fort.

  • At Ushaw College just outside Durham, we are working for the Trustees of the College and the University of Durham to establish long-term options for the continued use of this former Roman Catholic seminary on a 500 acre site. The College dates from the early Victorian era with later buildings by Augustus Pugin and his son, Peter Paul.
  • at Belmont House we are overseeing and coordinating a team of experts to produce a strategic study for this beautiful listed Georgian mansion which will include a conservation statement and development options.
  • for Newhaven Fort, a fine example of an English military structure dating from the 1860s, we are working with fellow consultants, rare architecture and BTP, to explore the building’s potential for the future.

Malcolm Reading said,

‘Finding a solution to the long-term viability of historic sites is always challenging but is ultimately very satisfying.

‘The benefits of improved access and new uses have to be balanced with the stewardship of these unique heritage assets.

‘MRC’s distinctive expertise in this type of work stems from its involvement in leading heritage projects over the past twenty years.’
