Stowe House Preservation Trust

The Grade I listed Stowe House is one of Britain’s finest examples of neoclassical domestic architecture, standing in the exceptional setting of a Capability Brown landscape. The ensemble has been designed by the foremost architects and garden designers of the day, including Vanbrugh, Bridgeman, Gibbs, Kent, and subsequently John Soane.

Since the 1920’s, the house and grounds have been used as a private school, Stowe School and the school permits public access to most of the historic fabric.

We coordinated a major successful application for funds to the HLF and helped the Trust to secure grant support of the World Monuments Fund, including the preparation of the funding agreement. We assembled the professional team of conservation architect, interpretation specialist and exhibition designers to develop a phased project of external conservation and re-presentation of the historic interiors.  Subsequently we carried out the selection of contractor for the works and provided full project management services to deliver the completed project.

We have worked on three phases of the project at Stowe over the past seven years, providing advice to Trustees and working with the School Bursar to minimise disruption during the works.
