The Wallace Collection is a national museum which displays the works of art collected in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries by four generations of the Hertford family and Sir Richard Wallace, the son of the fourth Marquess. It is probably best known for its paintings by artists such as Titian, Rembrandt, Hals and Velázquez and for its superb collections of eighteenth-century French paintings, porcelain, furniture and gold boxes.
The collection is housed in the London townhouse of its former owners, in the heart of London’s West End, and still retains a unique domestic feel and atmosphere.
We have worked with the museum over the past 13 years; firstly as project manager of the extensive refurbishment and glazing over of the main courtyard of the house for the centenary in 2000 (involving a massive 30% increase in public space) and subsequently for facade restoration, gallery improvements and other works.
We facilitated a partnering agreement with a specialist contractor, providing a five-year framework to carry out all construction works, helping to improve delivery and reduce disruption in the museum during projects.
In 2008 we ran a competition to select a designer for new shop, entrance and cloakroom to the museum.
